Helping You Become the Parents You Want to be

Hard Hats Required!

Welcome to my construction zone! Some of the pages are noticeably lacking in content and some of the links may not go anywhere, but it’s only because I’m just getting started. Thanks for your patience with the process!

Good things are coming!

Welcome to Becoming Parents Doula Services! My name is Kate Ellison (she/her), I’m a professional birth and postpartum doula & Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC). Based in Erie, Colorado, I serve families in south-western Weld, Boulder, Broomfield, and Adams Counties. Whether you’re a parent-to-be, a fellow birth worker, or just looking around, Welcome!

If you’re a parent-to-be, then you’re probably caught up in the whirlwind of doctor’s appointments, parenting blogs, shower registries, and preparing to take time off work. In all the hubbub it’s easy to miss the fact that a major personal transformation is under way: you’re becoming parents! Congratulations! I would like to invite you to take a moment to appreciate how freaking cool that is as you check-out my site.

If you only spend time on one page of this site, then I highly recommend making it the “How Do I Doula?” page, found in the drop-down menu under the “About” tab. More than any other part of this site, it will give you a sense of what I’m about. My “Service Packages” and “FAQs” pages can answer your more practical questions about how this all works, and the “About Kate” page might satisfy some curiosity about my story. Enjoy your visit!

A Note About Difference

The differences between us are the most beautiful things in the world, and nothing inspires me more as a doula than to work with families whose differences are sources of joy and love. Unfortunately, some differences are weaponized against different people in different contexts, and part of my calling as a doula is to protect birth and the transition into parenthood for families that find themselves ignored, disbelieved, misunderstood, left without resources, or simply facing challenges that the healthcare system is not ready to support. I joyfully welcome families of all different gender identities, sexual orientations, races, ethnicities, faiths, immigration statuses, socio-economic statuses, and family structures, and I promise to see the beauty of your family no matter what it looks like!
